Who you're booking with

Lessons, courses and intensives are taught by me, Jack Barton, trading as Decloak Music, based in Lisbon, Portugal. You can reach me at decloak.mcr@gmail.com. How I handle your details is covered in my privacy policy.

Booking

  • When you send a booking form, I'll reply within 48 hours to agree a start date and send a secure payment link.
  • Your booking is confirmed once I've received your payment, or your first instalment or deposit where one has been agreed. I'll confirm it by email.
  • If you're not sure which option suits you, book the free 30 minute intro call first. It's free and there's no obligation.
  • Every session is built around you, so tell me before we start if you're unsure whether your level, setup or goals are a good fit. I'll be honest if I think something else would suit you better.

Prices and payment

  • Prices are in pounds sterling (GBP) and are shown on each course page.
  • Payment is by card through the secure payment link I send. There's no card surcharge.
  • The Masterclass can be paid in instalments. The amounts and dates are agreed in writing before you start.
  • If my prices change, any quote I've already sent you is honoured, and once you've booked a course you keep the price you booked at.

Lessons on Zoom

  • Sessions are 90 minutes, live and one to one on Zoom, in English.
  • You'll need a computer with Ableton Live installed, a stable internet connection and headphones. Your Ableton licence and any plugins are your own.
  • If a session is cut short by a problem on my side, I'll make up the time. If it's on your side, I'll do my best to help you get reconnected, but the session time keeps running.
  • You're welcome to record our sessions for your own use. Please don't share or publish the recordings, or any notes or files I give you, without asking me first.

Rescheduling and missed sessions

  • To move a session, give me at least 24 hours' notice and we'll find another time.
  • With less than 24 hours' notice, or if you don't turn up, the session normally counts as taken. Genuine emergencies happen, so talk to me and I'll always be reasonable.
  • If I ever need to move a session, I'll give you as much notice as I can and we'll rebook at a time that suits you.

Cancelling and refunds

  • Your 14 day right to cancel. You can cancel a booking within 14 days of paying and get a full refund. If you've asked to start your sessions within those 14 days, I'll deduct the sessions you've already had, at the course's price per session.
  • After 14 days, course fees aren't refundable. If something serious stops you carrying on, get in touch: we can usually pause your course and pick it up later.
  • If I have to cancel a course and can't offer you new dates that work, I'll refund every session you haven't had.
  • Refunds go back to the card you paid with, within 14 days.

In-person intensives

  • I'll send you one all-in quote. Outside Lisbon it includes my travel, accommodation and local transfers.
  • A 50% deposit secures the dates. I only book travel once the deposit is paid. The balance is due 14 days before the first day.
  • If you cancel more than 30 days before the start, your deposit is refunded, minus any travel I've already booked that can't be refunded. Within 30 days of the start, the deposit isn't refundable.
  • If I have to cancel, you get a full refund, including any travel costs that can't be refunded.
  • Small groups of up to four people can share an intensive. The person who books is responsible for the whole group's payment.
  • You're responsible for the space we work in, and for your own gear and software.

Your music

Everything you make in our sessions is yours. I'll never use or share your music without your permission.

Liability

Please keep backups of your projects. I'm not responsible for lost files, or for problems with your computer, software or equipment. Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer or any liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited.

Changes to these terms

I may update these terms from time to time. The version in place when you booked applies to your booking. These terms are governed by Portuguese law, and if you're a consumer you also keep any protections the law where you live gives you.
