Decloak student Jacob Jeney, aka CUB, has recently dropped his latest track Forgiveness on Melbourne's Proponent Records as part of their Pulse EP. It landed on 16 March 2026, and it's his second release on the label in under a year, following his collaboration with Culture Shift on Caves, which came out on the TORQUE EP back in August 2025.

Two releases on the same label in that kind of timeframe says a lot. Proponent has been building a serious roster in Melbourne's raw and hypnotic techno space, and it's clear they rate what Cub is doing.

Who is Cub?

Cub is a Melbourne-based hard groove techno artist. His sound is groove-led, stripped back, and built around repetition, tension, and subtle percussive layers. If you know the genre, you know that kind of restraint is harder to pull off than it sounds. When there's less going on in a mix, every single element has to earn its place. That's what Cub does well.

He's been steadily building his presence across Melbourne's underground, playing rooms like New Gurnica, XE54, Section 8, and My Aeon. He's supported Laura King, TDJ, Mod Parlour, and Nik Kastel, and landed a guest mix on Kiss FM.

Beyond Proponent, he's released on ASW, ALU, and Phosphate Records, along with a handful of self releases. A personal favourite of mine is A Little Cherpy on Phosphate, available as a free download. Also worth checking out: Wanna Be on Bandcamp and Upgrades on SoundCloud.

Although techno is his home ground, he doesn't box himself in. Depending on the night and the energy in the room, he'll bring in house, breaks, and 2-step. That versatility shows in his productions too.

The Decloak Connection

Jacob came to us already embedded in Melbourne's scene. He wasn't starting from scratch. He'd been gigging, releasing, and building a name for himself, but wanted more advanced, focused work on sound design and mixing. That's what our one-to-one sessions zeroed in on: building sounds from scratch rather than leaning on presets, and getting his mixdowns tight enough that labels don't have to think twice about signing the track.

He progressed fast. Properly fast. He put the hours in between sessions, came back with questions that showed he'd been experimenting, and you could hear the difference in his productions week on week. Seeing that work translate into multiple label releases is exactly what you want.

Keep your eyes on this one. You can follow Cub on SoundCloud, Bandcamp, and Instagram.
